Spring is officially here and the wedding season is well and truly underway.

Updated: May 25, 2019

Congratulations if you are getting married this summer... Now it’s quite possible that your “I do” To Do list is starting to seem scary and unmanageable! Its easy in all this organisational mayhem to loose sight of one of the most important parts of this special day – YOU!

Choosing the right dress to make you look captivating on your special day is critical and no doubt this particular “To Do” is checked off after fun days spent trying on and choosing “The One”, hopefully with a glass of something bubbly in hand. Your hairstyle is just as critical in ensuring you achieve your desired look, and is equally on show as your dress for the entire day, yet many brides don’t start thinking about styles until the last minute or until their style trial appointment, if they have one booked.

Like choosing the right dress and shoes, the right hairstyle takes some thinking about and “trying on”. Having many years of experience, I’d like to share some of my top tips for helping you to select the perfect hairstyle for your wedding day.

Be true to you – it’s a bit like packing your suitcase for holiday, it’s still you so you need to be comfortable in the style that you’ve chosen – We still want to keep you; but just looking that extra bit special!

Dress – consider the style and shape of the dress, particularly the neckline – if you’ve just spent the most money you are ever likely to spend on one outfit you want to show it off; don’t hide that lovely lace neckline or the intricate back detail, you loved so much about the dress, behind your hair. Think about what you love most about your dress, and consider how any particular hairstyle would work with that. I always ask my brides to bring along a picture of their wedding dress to their pre-wedding trial so we can discuss the best feature

of their dress and ensure the hair style works to showcase these.

Theme – if you have decided on a theme for your wedding then make sure that it carries through to your chosen hairstyle. There is a big trend towards country/rustic weddings at the moment and these lend themselves beautifully to half up, half down Boho styles whilst a more traditional weddings might call for the sophistication of a high bun or sculpted ponytail.

Venue – It is likely that the chosen venue will have been influencial in any wedding theme but facilities at the venue should also be factored into hair style choices. Is it open to the elements, is there a private place for you to freshen up so that you can refresh your hair or does it need to stay the distance?

The Great British Weather (or further afield) – even with a wedding date in the height of summer, we Brits know that the one thing you can’t count on is the weather! Apart from the obvious of a day of pouring rain when a good umbrella will be required for keeping the rain off your wedding entourage, different hair types can react very differently to certain conditions. Some hair can frizz in damp conditions or some are affected by humidity; Dutch or Waterfall braids can be perfect for keeping hair at bay on hot days, looking effortless yet fresh. Getting to understand my brides’ hair structure is a key part of my pre-wedding service, ensuring that their hair remains looking effortlessly stylish whatever the weather throws at it.

Accessories – every girl knows that the right handbag, belt, or scarf can make a great outfit fabulous, well the same can be said for your hair accessories. Well chosen accessories are a great way of pulling together a particular look and showing off a little of your personality. From delicate hair grips to tiaras, veils and increasingly popular fresh flower crowns, the possibilities are endless, and I really enjoy helping brides explore the options and advising on how to successfully turn their daytime hair into an evening look.

With so many factors to consider, choosing the right hairstyle can seem a daunting task amongst all the other To Do’s. With some help and advice, gained through many years of experience, I can assist you to create the crowning glory for your perfect day.
